In Pennsylvania, everyone is abuzz with Halloween parties, preparation, and decorations in the stores and in front of homes. I took some shots of a few decorations before we left to spend the winter in Florida. I'll share my favorite photos. All the photos were taken in Pennsylvania except one in New York.
In Florida, the kids will have limited Trick or Treating in our 600 unit building. We had a sign up sheet if we wanted to participate and there is a designated time today for the kids to knock on the doors of ONLY those who signed up. It's between 4:00-6:00 PM today.
This pic is from New York in my son's neighborhood taken a few years ago. But I love it. |
Truthfully, I never liked giving out candy on Halloween. I hated the up and down of answering the door. We live in a development in Pennsylvania where we get over 100 -150 kids, half of them who I've never seen before. However, we always gave out candy anyway!!
I did not sign up to give out candy here in the condo building in Florida since we do not have any kids (that I know of) on our floor.
Tonight in North Miami Beach it will be business as usual. I won't even see the trick or treaters on the streets! In Pennsylvania the young kids dress in costumes for school so we also see them at the bus stop and kids trick or treat until 8:00 PM + .
It's a different world here in Miami Beach.
Hope everyone has a happy Halloween! Don't eat too much candy! and stay safe!
I was glad when my own kids were past trick or treating. We are way out in the country and have for the last few years not participated in any neighborhood activities. I do have to say it has been fun to take the grandson out to trunk or treat gatherings, he is having fun and it brings back memories of when my own kids were young. Have a great winter in FL!
ReplyDeleteThe kids are making the rounds here. Always a fun evening!
ReplyDeleteThis is the first year in maybe ever that I didn't give out candy. Rick was away and I had no idea how many would come, hated to buy it and have it left over. It felt kind of nice! But I can see where it would be really different. I hope by now all the storms are done and you have a safe, good winter in Florida!
ReplyDeleteTrick or treating was never a thing here until recently. But in our neighbourhood it is non existent.

Halloween is not a thing over here, but I am seeing more decorations over the years and even supermarkets now are carrying some Halloween themed stuff.
ReplyDeleteHalloween is hardly celebrated here, a few people decorate with pumpkins and other things in their gardens. And their is always a lot of Halloween stuff in the stores. Have a great November, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletei like the smiling skeletons!
ReplyDeleteThat is so different from PA! It's nice you can opt in or out as you please and won't be bothered if you didn't want to participate. The decorations are fun!
ReplyDeleteI like most aspects of Halloween – the food, the colors, the weather, the decorations, the dinnerware (!!), that sort of thing. I also like to see kids in their costumes, as long as they don’t come to my door and I don’t have to give them candy. Fortunately, there aren’t a lot of kids in my neighborhood so that’s not an issue. I figure when my boys were little, and not only did I carve the pumpkins with them, but got them costumes, took them trick-or-treating, and then came home to answer the door (don’t get me started on my ex-husband and how lazy he was), that I have more than paid my dues. Can you believe it’s November already?
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy the photographs you shared here.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy month of November.
All the best Jan

My condo here in Lakeland, FL doesn't even do a sign-up sheet. I never saw anyone trick or treating. I think it's the neighborhood. I like seeing kids in costumes, but I got tired of getting up and sitting down a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteWe only had 80 treaters but in the next block there are a couple of thousand — the police block of the street and there are MANY huge displays.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween. What makes you leave PA? Why Florida? Do you like living so far south? Do you ever miss snow?
ReplyDeleteIt’s crazy how different Halloween feels in a high-rise! I totally get what you mean about missing the decorated houses and kids everywhere. Handing out candy to over 100 kids sounds intense, though – I’d probably skip the sign-up too! Thanks for sharing the NY pic; it’s got that classic Halloween vibe. Hope you have a chill night!
ReplyDeleteWe never celebrated Halloween in the UK when I was growing up, but it now seems to be a thing. I was surprised to see my nieces dressing their kids up.
ReplyDeleteI guess kids are unlikely to knock on your door if you are in a high-rise.
I am pretty sure I left a comment here, but maybe it went to Spam. Who knows what Blogger does?
ReplyDeleteThat's so interesting about Halloween in Florida! I guess it makes sense because the weather isn't very fally. Anyway, I really enjoyed seeing all of your festive pics from home. The flower shop pic with the big black hat and sassy tee is so cute, and I love that dragon on the lawn! 🎃🖤🐲
