Florida- Here We Come

fall trees in orange colors

It’s Time!

The leaves are now crimson and amber bright,
And pumpkins are visible in the autumn’s light.
With crisper air and cooler days,
We feel the pull of warmer ways.

Our car is packed, snacks by our side,
Water’s shut off, the deck furniture is tied.
We’re closing up, and ready to roam,
It's time to head to our warm winter home.

We'll miss the fall coziness,
But as it chills, we'll have no remiss—
The southbound journey is our escape,
To sunny days in a warmer state.

To Florida we go, to our winter retreat,
Joining our friends, our joy is complete.
Beaches and shows, dinners and sun,
Mah Jong and canasta—all so much fun!

We plan to be on the road by 7:00 AM. It's a 20 hour ride from Philadelphia to North Miami Beach. We usually stop, after driving for 12 hours, in the Savannah, Georgia area to sleep for the night.  In the morning we have about a 7 and half hour ride to North Miami Beach.. We have more energy on day 1.

We take turns driving-3 hours each and then we switch. It's long and boring but the drive is strait all the way on 95 South. I bring food so we don't have to stop too often except for gasoline and bathroom stops. It's also healthier, otherwise we end up eating fast food for the 2 days.

We catch up on phone calls and listen to the oldies radio station and sing along !

Yes, we are considered snowbirds!!! (Although Philadelphia has not had much snow in the last 6 years).

  2. I hope that you will be far from the recent devastation so that you don’t have to deal with that. Having Trump and DeSantis in the same state might be a challenge though!

  4. Have a good trip and good winter! We travel the same...we bring healthy food in a large cooler and eat as if we were sitting at home; healthier and saves time. We only stop for bathroom and gas. And yes, I-95 is a nice road going straight down (and Savannah is lovely I hear). There is road construction on 95, but it doesn't interfere with the flow as it is off to the sides. andrea

  12. Sounds like you’ve got an awesome trip ahead!
Leaving fall behind is always a little tough, but Florida sunshine and fun times make it totally worth it.
The long drive doesn’t sound so bad with snacks, oldies, and taking turns at the wheel.

Safe travels, and enjoy those beach days!

  16. I usually stay in Indiana and my husband travels to Florida January through March for work. I was swapping out my summer wardrobe for my fall/winter attire and got a little jealous that he doesn't need to put away his shorts and tee shirts ever. I hope you have a great winter down there and all of the bad weather is now long gone from the state!
