The home was large and spacious with each couple having their own comfortable bedroom with a private bathroom ensuite. My husband and I shared the 2nd floor with our good friends with a living room dividing the two bedrooms.
The other two couples had similar arrangements on the ground floor.. In addition, there was a large kitchen, dining room, living room, lovely porch and deck and private swimming pool.
Unfortunately, the weather was not what we would have hoped for, because we only had one partially sunny day the entire week.
We managed to get to the beach (which was walking distance), but it was very cloudy and windy and the waves were too wild and choppy for a retired crew like us. However, we persevered and spent a few hours on the beach just talking and watching the ocean.
We had a very good time together. We playing canasta and mah Jong, frequenting local restaurants for dinners and making elaborate breakfasts every morning.
Despite the light drizzle in the early mornings (which escalated during the day), I managed to take a 45 minute walk daily. We stayed in a country setting, and I spotted fox, deer, raccoons, squirrels of course and people out walking their dogs on my walk.
Anyone who has been to Savannah, Georgia or South Carolina knows that the trees are spectacular.
We visited a friend of my friend Fay (who was one of the couples) who not only had a spectacular home, but had a 370 year old tree in her back yard which is not unusual for these Oak trees in the area. Although hers was one of the oldest recorded in Moss Creek area of Hilton Head.
My friend Fay ringing the door bell at her friend's house who invited all 8 of us for a lovely cocktail party. |

One of the highlights of the week, was finding a breakfast restaurant that served gluten-free vegan pancakes and waffles. Usually I can find gluten-free or vegan but not both. I was excited!
The breakfast restaurant was called Watusi and had plenty of regular food for my friends as well. It was a lucky lovely find!!
We enjoyed the week in Hilton Head. Our return flight ( and flight there) was from Savannah Airport . We took a 1 hour Uber ride from Hilton Head to Savannah Airport.
At the airport we were greeted by a Baby Grand piano in the airport lobby with a gentleman playing lovely soft piano music that was very relaxing.
Something new for me in an airport was the manicure machines!! You could get a machine to give you a robot manicure in 10 minutes!! I watched two people do it and it was fascinating and beautiful!! Only cost $15 (and no tip!!!)
The woman let me take a photo of her finished nails. They were perfect. ( there might be a little glare from the lighting)
You put one finger at a time into the machine. When done, you could coat your nails yourself with a quick drying liquid.
When the robot finishes, the machine takes about 3 minute break to self-clean between clients. You make an appointment in the machine too.
I would have done it, but I saw it 1/2 hour before boarding and didn't want to take a chance.
Well we are back home and the weather is gorgeous in Bucks County. Happy to be home. Now to start the laundry, grocery shopping and cooking!!!
I think I'll make my roasted carrot soup (link to recipe) !!
What a wonderful time you all had. I am intrigued by the robot manicure.
ReplyDeleteThe machine intrigued me too..
DeleteSo cool that your friends and you two were having such a good time! That fox shot is gorgeous and robot manicure...I hope I get to test it some day!
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to see a fox looking right at me.
DeleteJudee, what a lovely vacation with friends! We would love to see more of the south and hope once things are more settled here, to do so!
ReplyDeleteYes, the south is a great place to visit.
DeleteI don't get manicures anymore but would definitely give that robot one a try.
ReplyDeleteYes, I was so tempted. If I saw it earlier, I would have.
DeleteYour trip sounds so relaxing even without the sunny days in play. The house looks cozy and that tree in the on lady's back yard is spectacular! The mani machine intrigues me and I don't even paint my nails. I'd be tempted to give it a try though!
ReplyDeleteThe mani robot was a first for me and so interesting.
DeleteSounds like the perfect week away!

Thanks Tandy
DeleteSounds like you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteEven with the cloudy weather, I'm glad you enjoyed the house and the beach.
Gorgeous photos, Judee!
Happy Monday!
Well only went to the beach once bc it rained almost all afternoon each day
DeleteIt sounds like a really enjoyable holiday in a beautiful location.
ReplyDeleteHilton Head is beautiful and so relaxing.
DeleteIt sounds like an amazing vacation. The layout of the beautiful home where you stayed is perfect for friends to share. I also love the old magnificent trees there.
ReplyDeleteYes, Carol.. the layout of the house worked well for 4 couples.
DeleteSuch a smart idea to take advantage of the off-season. And in fact, September is one of my favorite seasons. Yes, I'm calling it a season. It's still summer, no matter what anyone else says, but it's less brutal and there are nowhere near the crowds.
ReplyDeleteI agree- September is a great seasonal time to get away
DeleteDespite the weather that does sound like you had such a nice trip!
ReplyDeleteYes, we enjoyed the company
Deletethis sounds like a really nice vacation despite the weather. the house you rented is really beautiful and sounds very spacious!! we are having what we call "locals summer" and the weather has been sunny and hot...the ocean water is warm. us locals got lucky this year!! it was very nice of fay's friend to have all of you over, that old tree is gorgeous!! i have never heard of a manicure machine like that, it surely looks like it did a GREAT JOB!! i wonder if it files them also!!
ReplyDeleteI loved all of your fabulous trip photos from Hilton Head. The trees really are spectacular, especially the one from the home you visited! You did a great job working around the weather to get all those walks in... and I loved your beautiful photo of the fox!
ReplyDeleteYour vacation sounds like a lovely and relaxing time, and I'm glad you've enjoyed it despite the weather. We want to rent a cottage some time in fall for a few days - just a little getaway closer to nature (and far from people) haha
ReplyDeleteThis looks like the best time -- and what a terrific idea, to share a house with several other couples. I love that Fay's friend hosted you all for a cocktail party! That's delightful! Welcome home. (Great photos!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming house you stayed at. I love those old front porches, they're so big. They don't make them like that any more. Those twisted old trees are amazing. The stories they could tell.
ReplyDeleteAnd those are yummy looking pancakes. Sounds like you had a wonderful trip.

crumbs! a robot mani? how interesting. and looks pretty darn good. I gulped when you mentioned no tip; it is just not a thing here to tip anywhere! so it was a bit shocking to have it even mentioned. Must have been great to get away with friends.
ReplyDeletecheers
