Is it hot enough for you? .

We’re in the thick of summer, and we've been having a heatwave!  The heat can be brutal, especially when it comes to staying active. But don’t sweat it (literally)—there’s a fantastic way to keep moving without braving the scorching sun.

When weather keeps me wanting to stay indoors with the air conditioning and skipping my morning walk,  I turn to YouTube walking videos or Youtube light exercise videos instead!

Why YouTube?

YouTube is an absolute treasure trove of walking, stretching, yoga, and fitness content. There’s something for everyone whether looking for a workout or a simple walk with online company. Here’s why it’s the perfect solution for your summer fitness routine:

  1. Stay Cool Indoors:  With YouTube videos, you can stay cool and comfortable in the air conditioning while still getting a nice walk to music.

  2. Variety is Key:  You won't get bored. There’s a huge variety of videos to choose from. You can mix things up based on your mood and fitness goals.

  3. Convenience at Your Fingertips: You can work out anytime of the day and never have to leave your house.dcv Whether it’s first thing in the morning, during a lunch break, or after dinner, you can fit in a walk around your schedule. I tend to walk as soon as I wake up otherwise I tend to get lazy!

  4. It's Free: Most of the content is free! Just grab a water bottle, put on some comfy clothes, slip on your sneakers, and hit play.

Getting started is super simple:

  1. Find Your Favorite: Search for keywords like “indoor walking routine” or “easy exercise at home” or even "Tai Chi for seniors" on YouTube. There are tons of channels dedicated to making walking or dancing to music fun and accessible.

  2. Set the Scene: Clear a bit of space in your living room or wherever you have room to move. I watch Youtube on my computer and make some room in my office.

  3. Start Small: If you’re new to indoor walking, start with shorter videos—10 to 15 minutes—and gradually increase the time as you get more comfortable.

  4. Stay Hydrated: Keep a water bottle handy to stay hydrated.

  5. Enjoy the Ride: Don’t worry about perfect form or keeping up with every move—just enjoy the movement and the break from the heat.

Some of My Picks to Check Out

  1. Walk at Home by Leslie Sansone:  Her walking routines are easy to follow, fun, and vary from 10 minutes to 1 hour. !

  2. The Fitness Marshall: If you’re looking for a high-energy dance workout, The Fitness Marshall will have you grooving in no time. It’s a blast and a great way to lift your spirits.

  3. Yoga with Adriene: For a gentler option, Adriene Mishler’s yoga sessions are fantastic. They’ll help you stretch and relax while staying cool indoors.

So, the next time it's too hot and you’re tempted to give up your outdoor walk or run, remember that YouTube has your back! You can pop on a video and keep moving without ever stepping a foot outside.

It's important for us to keep moving regardless of the weather! Stay cool, stay fit, and most importantly, have fun right in your own house!

  1. We have a rather lousy summer here...lots of rain and the temperature is low..but I love both living room exercise and outdoor walking along the Rhein river and woods..we just came back from our daily 3-4 hrs walking...yes, we do that everyday. Before we go out for a walk, I usually do some strength training, yoga or pilate.

  3. This is a wonderful idea. I love browsing through workout videos on YouTube, especially during the wintertime. There's a huge selection, it's free, and it caters to what you're looking for. The Fitness Marshall sounds great. Thanks for sharing!

  4. I really appreciate YouTube also. I have seen many good movies watching YouTube. I usually do what I have to do in the early mornings. The mornings and evenings are cooler in the mountains. One of the reasons I love being here. Your creamy strawberry soup sounds delightful, especially during these hot days.

    Wishing you pleasant August days.

  8. Luckily we have a home gym so the weather doesn't get in the way of exercising. But this is a great idea.

  9. Exercise indoors for me is less than ideal. It is necessary these days though! Heat and humidity are brutal.

  11. We also have quite a summer with many hot, humid days - even nights are often bad. Also, other house doesn't have air conditioning/ heat pump yet, so it's quite bad. The only one good place in summer is our basement, where we even keep a few cardio machines :)

  12. I've been so lazy when it comes to exercising.
I have subscribed to several exercise channels on YouTube, but rarely follow.

  13. I'm also slack in watching and walking to the videos

  14. All three that you mention are some of my favorites-- Get Fit with Rick is a good one too.

  15. That's a brilliant idea to keep moving. It's very hot and humid here and we get our main half hour walk in early. Whew! Thanks for the comment on my blog, Judee.

  16. Why did I never think to look for walking videos on YouTube? Heaven knows I turn to YouTube for just about everything else. These actually sound like fun, so thanks for mentioning it. I think I’m going to give them a try this week.

  17. I have to admit that I was skeptical, but I watched one of the walk at home videos, and I can see easily how good of an exercise it could be. I'm a big fan of walking, and I always dread the depths of winter when walking outside isn't as fun or feasible as it is the rest of the year.

  18. Judee, I completely understand your opinion about the grocery store coupons & app. It frustrates me too, when technology that should be used to make things easier, instead makes it more difficult. I would seriously consider sending your commentary (which is very well written- using humor to make your point) to a few Vice President's in the grocery store management. Good luck!! Patty
