I have two bird feeders in my yard hoping to attract some interesting birds. Well it has not been a good season this year- the squirrels are eating more than the birds and we are tending to get mostly small brown birds such as sparrows.
A few weeks ago, I was visiting Carol at Comfort Spring Blog. She posted about ways to attract more birds to your yard. She had a lot of great suggestions that you may enjoy. One of her suggestions was to provide fresh water such as a bird bath.
It made sense to me, so I decided to make one! You have to understand that I am not crafty nor handy, but I was not in the mood to go out and spend money on a bird bath- so I made one myself.
I took an old large planter and turned it upside down to use as a base.
I remembered that I had a beautiful large shallow serving bowl stored in the basement because it was kind of heavy and awkward to use for serving comfortably.
Ureeka! I had the makings of my birdbath. I filled the bowl with 3-4 cups of clean fresh water and placed it near my bird feeders. That was a week ago and I have yet to see a bird go in it.
Am I attracting more birds? The other day I had a few blue jays! They were new for me...
Regardless, I love the look of my new bird bath and feel good that I am making use of a bowl that was just sitting in basement for years. Maybe some birds will eventually go in it!! Carol did say they like moving water best- oh well!!
As long as we are here, I
thought I would share two recipes from a previous August.
We enjoy this zucchini recipe for chilled zucchini lime soup with fresh uncooked kernels cut directly off cob. Delicious!!
The cubes of tofu could work as GF croutons or just to add some protein to a salad. They are easy, fast, and very tasty!
Love your birdbath!
ReplyDeleteI love your birdbath. We have a large variety of birds that visit our yard but we had to stop feeding them in the spring/summer because it attracted too many squirrels that found my garden also appealing. There is nothing more frustrating than watching a squirrel grab a tomato, take one bite and then throw it down. lol
ReplyDeleteLove the bird bath. I like to re-purpose things too. Well done!
ReplyDeleteAn excellent job on making that bird bath! Blue jays are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove the beautiful blue jay and recipes sound delicious. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love that you made your own. You rock!
ReplyDeleteLove that bird bath. My husband liked to spread bird seed around to attract birds but now that we have the dog it's probably best not to do that anymore!
ReplyDeleteDozens of people offer advice about attracting birds, not all of it consistent. I hope the birds do soon discover your birdbath.

ReplyDeleteI need to make a bird bath like that! It's just terrific and looks relatively easy to pull off. Yummy food, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool, resourceful bird bath! I never would've known that you made it from an old planter and bowl. I hope some new feathered friends flock to it soon. 💙🐦
