If you are looking for a TV series that will hook you in, I highly recommend watching "Endeavour."
Originally on PBS, it is now available for free on Prime and is truly a quality British detective series.
Shaun Evans plays young Inspector Morse in my 6 seasons of watching on Prime. He is a brilliant, yet humble, solver of many murder mysteries and very ethical and straightforward fellow who is somewhat on the serious side and a little bit of a social loner.
The other well developed characters in the show are interesting, the episodes are intriguing, and the acting is excellent.
It's originally part of PBS Masterpiece Theater.
I love the opera music in each episode, the historical references, and the plain brilliance of the way each episode unfolds. It takes place in the 1960's in Oxford, England. (I watch we subtitles since the British accents are quite strong).
It's not a new show, but it's new for me.
I've been binge watching the old episodes, and I am now in season 4. I highly recommend it - I don't think you will be disappointed.
For those who have already watched it, the new Season 8 is now starting on PBS.
I also understand that there is another series on Prime called Inspector Morse which is a British detective series that preceded Endeavour and is about the older Inspector Morse- lover of the finer things in life and solver of many murder mysteries.
What are you watching? Have you watched Endeavour?
I have watched both young and old Inspector Morse. Didn't know there's a new season out.
ReplyDeleteI believe that is what I read that it is on PBS starting soon.
DeleteI especially enjoy watching crime/detective shows - I will look for this on Prime. Thanks for the suggestion :)
ReplyDeleteJudi, you will love this one. Let me know how you like it.
DeleteI always enjoy British dramas. Morse and Endeavour are excellent!
ReplyDeleteI just found them and as I said I'm loving it.
DeleteJudee, I was commenting and it just disappeared! I was writing to let you know that I appreciate British productions as well, especially their mysteries and the shows about history. I like Agatha Christie's series with the old French detective (can't spell his name), I enjoyed watching Mary Berry's shows, and now I'm watching "Becoming Elizabeth". I'll check out this series that you recommended. Happy summer reading!

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll look into the Agatha Christie series too..
DeleteI fell in love with Morse when the series first aired in the late '80s. I dearly love John Thaw, and was absolutely crushed when he passed away. It did my heart good to see his daughter appear in the new version. When we were living in Oxford, it was great fun to visit all of the sites that appeared in the show. I also enjoy Endeavour, and think the casting is truly inspired, particularly where the ME is concerned.
ReplyDeleteI'm embarrassed that the show is that old. I just found it on Prime and decided to watch and then was HOOKED!! Shaun Evans must be really old by now! ITs 40 years!
DeleteIt looks very interesting!........Abrazotes, Marcela
ReplyDeleteYou know I love a good murder mystery, so I think I'd really enjoy Endeavor and Inspector Morse. And it's great that they're on Prime, because I have that! Thanks for the recommendation. :)
ReplyDeleteYou will not be disappointed with this one! You will love it. Let me know ..
DeleteWe don't have PRIME here, so it's not a show I've even heard of!
