A Peek at My Week

                                            Happy Mother's Day!

 A Peek At My Week

Today is like day 52? of the Pandemic, and we have been staying inside and sheltering,  except for our morning walk and evening walk.

I usually walk with my neighbor from 7:30 to-8:30 am. We walk with masks and get we get REALLY agitated by all the people who are out walking and are not wearing masks.  I think the masks help reduce the risk of contamination.

What do you think? Shouldn't people be considerate to others and wear a mask when walking outside on a street where many people pass each other!

I live in North Miami Beach (Sunny Isles) which is mucho crowded.
We do have a beautiful walking path in Haulover park which runs parallel to the ocean. We can see the ocean throughout our walk as we journey on the 1.5-mile stretch up and bac. It's beautiful and we are mucho grateful!!

In the early evening my husband and I do the walk again- wearing our masks of course.

Look who I met on my walk in the park near the Intracoastal which is on the opposite side of the ocean across the street. These guys are VERY common in Florida. I see them all the time.

big iguana

There are a few other parks where we walk, but we have to drive to them.

Sunset

Aside from my walks,  I've been reading, cooking, eating, blogging, and enjoying Netflix!

What am I reading?

This is a suspenseful book that is based on the true story of the life of Cecelia (Cilka) Klein. Captured by the Nazis as a young Jewish girl and sent to a concentration camp. Her exceptional beauty becomes her saving grace and her curse. Forced to choose between life as a sex slave for two Nazi officers or facing the gas chambers, 16-year-old Cilka chooses life."I just want to live. I need to feel the pain I wake up with every morning knowing I am alive, and my family isn't. This pain is my punishment for surviving, and I need to feel it, live it." Somehow the pain helps her to continue to feel despite being totally numb.

When the war is over three years later, the camp is liberated but not Cilka. Cilka is charged with collaborating with the enemy and sent to a Russian prison camp that is as horrible as Auschwitz. While in Gulub, Cilka deals with hard labor, lack of food, nightly sexual abuse, and unliveable living quarters until she meets a female doctor who teaches her to become a nurse in their prison hospital. Cilka's Journey is the story of survival and the strong resilience of the human spirit.

I was captivated by Cilka- a young girl who was wise beyond her years and had the inner strength to endure the unendurable. Knowing that the fictional story is based on a true story, made we want to find out how her life ended. The book was very well written and a very good read.

What am I cooking?

Cucumber and Radish Salad

Mongolian Mushrooms and Tofu
The Asian sauce is easy to make and as good as anything I've eaten in an Asian restaurant. I'm not used to cooking Asian food. I was thrilled with the results!

Lebanese Eggplant Moussaka

This is not like Greek Moussaka. Lebanese Moussaka is more like a ratatouille.

What am I Watching on Netflix?
Lucifer- "The series revolves around Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), the Devil, who abandons Hell for Los Angeles where he runs his own nightclub and becomes a consultant to the LAPD. The ensemble and supporting cast include Lauren German as Detective Chloe Decker, Kevin Alejandro as Detective Daniel "Dan" Espinoza, D. B. Woodside as AmenadielLesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen, and Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin. Filming took place primarily in VancouverBritish Columbia before production was relocated entirely to Los AngelesCalifornia beginning with the third season."- Wikipedia

I had to get through the first 3 episodes before I really started to like the series! I'm in the third season and yes! I'm glad I watched it. It is a fun fantasy with intrigue, romance, and a little magic in this fast-paced detective series!! They solve a crime and get justice in every show!

  1. Looks like that you did have a quite relaxing week :-) Love that sunset shot! Happy Mother's Day to you, Judee.

  2. You week sounds like ours only the weather is much better. People are not wearing masks here. A rare individual is but it’s not recommended. There have been 27 cases, all from travel, all recovered. Access to the island is restricted. Isolation measures have eased a bit. We will see our grandkids for Mother’s Day.

    Have a great day Judee.

  3. I'm glad you get to enjoy your daily walks. We live in a small town, rarely encountering anyone, and we go wide if someone approaches us on our walking path. People should wear masks, I think, if there are lots of people out.

Cilka's Journey sounds like a fascinating, if difficult read. For some reason, I seem to do better reading books about terrible times right now. It seems to put this lockdown in perspective for me.

I hadn't heard about Lucifer. We've been watching The Good Place and last week we discovered Upload. All three of these have afterlife themes. I wonder what that means.

    Have a good week.

    1. I watched The Good Place and it was very cute but then we got tired of it after a while. Maybe I will try upload!!

  4. I've never watched Lucifer before, but I've heard nothing but amazing things about it! I really ought to add it to my watch list. It makes me agitated seeing people without masks, and people that aren't observing the 2m rule! Some people just don't care xo

  6. I love the walks with those ocean views. We haven't gone out except our backyard and I hadn't thought about wearing masks while walking. Generally there is almost no one out and about in the neighborhood so it might not be an issue. I'm grateful we have what we need. I'll have to check out more of your blog as we are GF also.

    Take care and happy reading!

  7. We haven't been wearing masks when we're outdoors, but we give ourselves a wide berth when we see others. I've only seen a few people wearing masks on walks, but it might get more common!

  8. Those are some delicious dishes you've shared! I've also seen some good recipes here that I will need to try. :)

I'm with you - I'd rather everyone wear a mask than not. It's important that we get out of this pandemic as soon as possible and every little step helps. Someday, we won't have to wear a mask and hopefully that someday comes soon. Won't that be nice?

  9. Your walking path looks beautiful! Usually when I go on walks, I’m the only person wearing a mask. It’s disappointing. Luckily, my walking paths aren’t crowded. I hope you have a good week!

  10. I'm all for the masks too. I just think it's better to be safe than sorry. Especially in a busy area! Your walking path sounds wonderful with the ocean view. I find nature to be so relaxing right now with the stress of the pandemic...

Love the pics, especially the lizard. I'm always surprised when I'm in Florida at all the wildlife scampering around but it's neat to see. :)

Thanks for visiting my blog, and be well this week!

  11. I follow a gluten-free diet so I love what you're eating! Cilka's Journey sounds like a good read but heartbreaking too. I'm trying to not read anything too heavy these days. Enjoy your reading week!

  12. Ah a little dinosaur (lizard) of sorts - that would freak me out to be honest. The Lebanese Aubergine Moussaka looks richly flavoured, but then you compared it to Ratatouille and I am not always a fan of it.

  14. We walk every day. Don't meet that many people (and it's really easy to avoid them -- not much traffic where we walk, so we just step into the street), so we carry our masks with us and put them on when necessary. Stay safe!

  15. Beautiful ocean views, you are lucky there! If it's crowded on walks .... I think masks are a good idea. Stay safe!
