A Peek At My Week 5/30

This magnificent rainbow, which was visible right outside my condo balcony, was the highlight of my week. I'm not sure that I've ever seen one as bold and striking. It wrapped from one side of the horizon to the other and was bright and clear. I was sure there was a pot of gold at the end of it! This week I'm sharing a book review, a Netflix review, 2 gluten-free/ vegan recipes, and some photos of a walk in the park in Florida.

We had been having small floodings, continuous torrential rains, thunderstorms, high winds, and what they call "white-outs" in South Florida where it is foggy and there is no visibility anywhere. After 4 days of these intense rainstorms, this colorful rainbow was a welcome sight.

What a beautiful gift from the universe to lift our spirits and brighten our day! 

What I am reading now: Big Summer
 by Jennifer Weiner, author of two NY Times #1 Best Sellers,  Good in Bed and Best Friends Forever.

Big Summer is an entertaining read about friendship, resilience, the havocs of social media, self-discovery, and understanding what really matters. The main character, Daphne Berg, shares her insecurities and struggles about being an overweight young woman who finally comes to terms with her feelings of self-worth. She channels her energies into a successful career, despite her size! After just finishing reading American Dirt, which was serious and intense historical fiction, I was looking for a light read. This was it. I enjoyed it and recommend it for your light summer reading!

What I am watching: Kim's Convenience



This is a really light sitcom that will keep you entertained when you have nothing better to watch. You will meet a Korean family who runs a corner convenience store in a lower-income area of Toronto. Mr. Kim (the father) is a tough stubborn guy who has high expectations/demands of his daughter and wife and is estranged from his son who he has thrown his son out of the house years back. We meet many characters, from different ethnic backgrounds who are friends of the daughter, the mother, the father, the son, and characters who are frequent shoppers in the convenience store.
Funny at times, I give Kim's Convenience is a B to B- 

What I am seeing on my walks: 

Greynolds Park, in North Miami, is a beautiful old park off of Dixie Highway about 10 minutes from where I live. They have many shady walking paths that go deep into nature. I drive my car there and we take walks.

This is a write up about the history of the park Taken from Miami Dade Website: 

Park Description

"Once the site of a rock quarry, is now a 249-acre park consisting of a variety of habitats; most notably a relatively intact hardwood hammock and mangrove forest.  The hammock at Greynolds is one of the last well-protected natural areas of northern Miami-Dade County.

Tequesta Indians used the Oleta River, which runs along the east side of the park, as a source of transportation.  In the years following, the Seminole Indians used the land alongside the river as a trading post and a source of supplies for early Miami-Dade County settlers. The park is named after A.O. Greynolds, the head of Ojus Rock Company, who deeded the land over to Miami-Dade County Parks Department in 1936.

The park was popular amongst hippies during the 1960s, where they converged to join “Love-ins” that featured musical acts. Today, the park pays homage with the annual Love-in event held in May."

Yes, he was big and scary and there are lots of them all over the park!

My affirmation: Today I will think about, read about, and focus on things that bring me joy- ( I'll look at old family photos, watch some re-runs of I Love Lucy, bake cookies, etc.)
