Looking for an easy but eloquent appetizer?
I make these Caprese Kabobs and top them with homemade pesto or sometimes I pick up a jar of pesto at Whole Foods for $3.99..
These kabobs are delicious, easy to transport, easy to eat, fresh and healthy!
In addition, they are perfect for vegetarian and gluten free guests.
Vegan? Try my l vegan avocado Caprese salad. ( picture below)
We always celebrate Mother''s Day with our extended family. Sometimes it's for brunch, sometimes for a BBQ or sometimes for dinner. Regardless of how we celebrate, we have a big crowd and everyone brings something to contribute to the meal.
I usually make a lovely flat captese platter. It is delicious but a little messy to eat at a party where most of the guests are standing.
This year I'll be making these easy kabobs and homemade spinach pesto! ( if you are nut free use my balsamic reduction instead of the pesto ..
If you are vegan you can make my wonderful vegan avocado Caprese salad or make the kabobs and substitute heart of palm for the mozzarella balls,
Caprese Salad Kabobs
Small mozzarella balls
Cherry tomatoes
Fresh basil leaves
Toothpick skewers ( these are larger than toothpicks)
pesto! Sauce
Alternate ingredients placing a cherry tomato, a mozzarella ball, a piece of fresh basil folded, and end with another cherry tomato~!! A perfect gluten free real food appetizer.
How do you celebrate Mother's Day?

ReplyDeleteAngie,

I love these! Thanks for sharing on To Grandma's House We Go!
ReplyDeleteI love the title of your party- to grandma's house we go! Reminds me of when my kids were young..
DeleteThis is a freaking brilliant idea. Utterly no-mess, prepare ahead, healthy, gorgeous, and seasonal. I will be making it with lots of our basil, folded on the skewer, and with your balsamic reduction. I am ALWAYS looking for veggie things that can act as both hors d’oeuvres and salad. Not to mention first course, side dish, etc. Basically something that I can throw down in front of my family of ravening wolves from the second they enter, throughout the meal, and after while they help clean up and still need something to mindlessly shove down their bottomless gullets until dessert is put out. In fall and winter, a 3,000 quart bowl of roasted Brussels sprouts with the reduced balsamic does the trick, but is wrong for now and summer. So thanks!

ReplyDeleteI am so glad you find my idea freaking brilliant-I served it for a party and it looked great and made the perfect clean eating ( in all ways) appetizer-\
I appreciate you taking the time to comment
I like the idea of a salad kabob. That is a fun way to serve a salad. Thank you for sharing at This is How We Roll link party.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. I enjoy your linky party -
DeleteYour presentations are very attractive! Using skewers is a trick I”be often seen careers choose — but they sometimes forget that when you do that, it has to be eaten rather quickly or the tomatoes get kind of bad. That arrangement of foods that roll around when you try to serve them helps people to help themselves!

Mae,
DeleteThat is just what I had in mind. Personally, I don't like to eat food that others have touched. This is personal and easy

DeleteOOps, I'm not sure if this will post twice -- sorry.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I was saying, I think the kabob idea is great. Perfect for gathering where people are standing -- as in a cookout. Love all the different ideas you have: I may have to work my way through them this summer.
Yes, you could even get away without a plate..
DeleteLove all your caprese ideas, especially the kabobs. Avocado is a great substitute for the cheese too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jama- the kabobs are my favorite too
